Community
Profile
Pioneer
High School was built in 2002-2003 and was in the final stages of
completion before opening initially to 9th and 10th graders
on September 2, 2003. PHS is the second comprehensive
high school in the Woodland Joint Unified School District.
Located in the City of Woodland, it serves a community of predominantly
middle-income families. The Woodland Community has a strong
agricultural background. Major employers in the community
include healthcare, warehouses, and agriculture. Both Pioneer High
School and Woodland High School draw students from two public middle
schools and private schools that are located in Woodland.
In 2001-2002, 8% of the students’ families received aid from Cal
Works, 10.5% of the students received free or reduced lunches, and
338 students were identified as Limited English Proficient.
This year the ethnic distribution of the student body is as follows:
4.6% Asian, 1.5% Black, .5% Filipino, 46.8% Hispanic, 1% Native
American, and 45.5% White.
