First Full WASC Accreditation
Pioneer High School will be participating in its
first full cycle accreditation on
April 23
– 25, 2007. The “Focus
on Learning” Self-Study
review is a joint process involving the Western Association of
Schools and Colleges (WASC) California Department of Education (CDE).
“Focus on Learning” is an ongoing school improvement
process that assists a school in an in-depth look at what currently
exists and what needs to be improved in relation to student learning
and the school’s program. Basic concepts addressed in this process
focus upon student success in meeting expected school wide learning
results (ESLRs) and the academic content standards.
The accreditation process is an ongoing, perpetual
cycle of assessment, planning, implementing, monitoring, and
reassessment: The process is guided and assisted by the
Self-Study,
Visit,
and Follow-up.
The criteria used to develop the Self-Study are
research-based. There are five Focus Group Areas:
Organization: Vision and Purpose, Governance, Leadership and Staff,
and resources
Standards-based Student Learning: Curriculum
Standards-based Student Learning: Instruction
Standards-based Student Learning: Assessment and Accountability
School Culture and support for Student Personal and Academic Growth
Focus groups are comprised of all “ stakeholders”
in members of the community. Stakeholders are certificated and
classified employees, parents, students, the community, and
administration.
Last year the teachers agreed with the principal’s
recommendation to add three sub-Focus Groups. The sub-focus groups
will be comprised of members of main focus groups. The three areas
selected are:
Safety
Parent involvement
