This course introduces easy conversational forms, practice in
pronunciation, vocabulary building and the fundamental grammatical
principles
Advanced Spanish I
(10 credits) Prerequisites: Students need to speak and comprehend
Spanish in order to enroll
This course is designed to introduce the Spanish-speaking students to
basic grammar, vocabulary, and practice in reading and writing.
Students will read selections on legends, customs and traditions of
Spain and Latin America. Career opportunities for bilingual people
will be explored.
Spanish II
(10 credits) Prerequisites: Grade of C or better in Spanish I.
Students may be recommended by their previous teacher. Testing at this
level may place native speakers.
This course is a continuation of Spanish I, includes an
intensive study and review of grammar with more written practice. The
second semester places more emphasis on reading and an expansive study
of basic grammatical structures. More emphasis will be placed on the
performance aspect of the communicative skills acquired.
Advanced Spanish II
(10 credits) Prerequisites: Students must have successfully completed
Advanced Spanish I
The emphasis of this course is to continue to develop reading and
writing skills. The study of grammar is in detail. Articles on the
history, culture and famous people of different Latin American
countries will be read and discussed. Essay writing, research projects
and oral presentations are also included in this class.
Spanish III
(10 credits) Prerequisites: Student should have attained a grade of B
or better in both semesters of Spanish II
This course places more emphasis on spoken Spanish on written
construction, and the reading of popular selections in Spanish. The
grammar study is more intensive. Oral presentations are an essential
part of this course.
Spanish IV
(10 credits) Prerequisites: Students must have successfully completed
Advanced Spanish II or Spanish III
Students will develop interpersonal and academic language skills in
Spanish while reading and discussing texts of various Latino authors.
Students will write for a variety of purposes and audiences.
