Senior Conduct

Pioneer High School Senior Conduct Policy

Pioneer High School Senior Conduct Policy

Receiving a diploma and participating in a commencement ceremony is an important milestone in one’s life.  While a student may be granted a diploma based upon earned credits and fulfilling requirements in specific academic areas, the privilege to participate in senior activities or the commencement ceremony is contingent upon maintaining acceptable scholastic and citizenship standards.

Expectations and Procedures:
Seniors are expected to maintain acceptable standards in the areas of academics, attendance, conduct and citizenship.  Instances where a senior’s conduct or performance does not meet school standards, as determined by the staff and site administrators, an administrative review will be conducted.  Based upon the results of the administrative review, students and parents will be notified and conferences held when necessary.  Individuals who continue to maintain unacceptable standards and/or are involved in disciplinary situations at the end of the school year may be excluded from one or more senior activities such as: senior breakfast, senior prom, etc., and/or the commencement ceremony.

Academics: Senior academic progress will be monitored during both terms of the senior year.  Seniors are expected to make a conscientious effort to pass all classes they are enrolled in.

  • Instances where academic performance does not meet school standards, the student and parent will receive written notification from the school and conferences with the student and parents will be held as necessary.
  • If, as a result of a students “slacking off” during the period from the end of the Third Grading Period to the closing of school, a senior fails to meet the school academic standards, parents will immediately be notified and a conference will be scheduled as necessary.
  • Seniors must fulfill all district and state graduation requirements in order to be granted a diploma and participate in the commencement ceremony.

Attendance:  Attendance for all seniors will be monitored during both terms and an attendance review may be conducted on any senior who has excessive absences during a term.  The review will include excused and unexcused absences, single period, or full day absences, tardies and truancies.

  • Attendance patterns and reasons for absences will be carefully studied.  If a senior’s attendance does not meet school standards, the student and parent will be notified and conferences scheduled as necessary.
  • The administration will review all instances of senior truancy (cuts) during the last few months of school.  Cutting classes whether for a single period, or full day absence, may result in exclusion from senior activities and/or the commencement ceremony.
  • Senior activities are provided for seniors as a privilege, not a right.  Any senior participating in, planning, or conducting a senior cut day will face serious disciplinary action and removal from senior activities and/or the commencement ceremony.
  • Attendance at the commencement practice is mandatory.  Any student who misses commencement practice without prior approval will not be allowed to participate in the commencement ceremony.

Conduct/Citizenship: All seniors are expected to maintain acceptable citizenship and conduct themselves in a positive manner.  This is a requirement for participation in senior activities and the commencement ceremony. Should misconduct during the last few months of school result in suspension, senior privileges may be revoked.

  • Planning or participation in “senior pranks” and/or involvement in acts of vandalism on the Pioneer High School campus will not be tolerated. This includes painting in parking lot or on campus, driving vehicles on campus lawns or fields, damaging and defacing school property, etc.  In addition to school disciplinary action, such as suspension and required restitution, students involved in planning or participating in these types of activities face exclusion from senior activities and/or the commencement ceremony.
