A Career in Independent Study

Ernst Schneidereit started his professional teaching career at the Independent Learning Center in 1991. He left for an eight year period to teach in Lake Tahoe and privately in Sacramento, but substituted for ILC throughout that time and returned in 2008. He graduated with a degree in Zoology from UC Davis and holds credentials in Life Science, Chemistry, English Literature, Social Studies, and a certification to teach mathematics in alternative education settings.

Ernst is also a freelance writer and editor, authoring articles on a number of subjects. His professional interests include helping students become citizen scientists and to grow in their appreciation of oceanography and marine biology by visiting the many beautiful locations on our California coast via regular field trips. He was formerly the Gifted and Talented Education (GATE) Coordinator in the school district and is also fluent in German and Romanian.
